The Miami Fire Department is responsible to the citizens of Miami and the surrounding community for protection of life, property and environment.

This protection must have a broad coverage to include hazards from fire or explosives, faulty construction, dangerous articles, storms, tornados, and from other occurrences that seriously disrupt normal conditions.

The major objectives of a fire department are to reach the scene of the incident as quickly (within 3 minutes of call) and safely (without additional harm to victim or employee), as possible, rescue victims, locate the fire, and apply suitable extinguishing agents with a minimum of fire, water, smoke, and heat damage.

The primary functions for the fire service rescue and general order by which they are usually performed is: locating and freeing victims of hazardous incidents, conveying victims to a safe place, and rendering essential first aid to victims, then neutralizing the incident.

The fire department is to provide fire department employees with quality training/drilling so that they can understand the characteristics and behavior of those elements and situations with which they must contend. The fire department is to assist its employees in reaching personal goals and objectives.
