Center of Information
Technology (CIT) is
a division of the
administrative services
department and is
responsible for the
operation and maintenance
of the City's computer
systems, telecommunications,
and related electronic
equipment.
The (CIT) computer
network serves 215
City personnel with
a hardware base of
an IBM AS/400 server
and 65+ personal computers
which are linked together
by two integrated
Novell networks. The
City uses a comprehensive
municipal government
software package which
includes the following
applications:

Accounts
payable
Payroll
Utility
billing
Customer
service
Municipal
court
Personnel
Data
processing
Public Safety (Police,
and Fire Emergency
Service):
Computer
Aided Dispatch
Offense
Entry
Case
Management
Pawn
Tickets
Property
Management
Training
Fire/EMS
Management
Fire
Prevention
Municipal
Court
In addition to accepting
payment for City of
Miami utility services
such as water, sewer,
and garbage pickup,
the customer service
division also is a
24-hour payment point
for all the services
that are provided
by the City of Miami.
All computer users
have access to common
E-Mail, word processing,
and calendar scheduling.
The CIT division's
focus has been on
global/organization-wide
solutions. All of
the applications and
servers are integrated
around core financial
accounting and land
base databases. Future
enhancements to these
applications will
provide a common customer/people
database.
