1. City Works On New Youth Baseball Field

The city's application for grant funding to build a new baseball field for 13-14 year olds in Riverview Park has been approved. The park will be known as Francis Morgan Field and the project will be completed in two Phases. Phase I is behind schedule due to the recent flooding. The improvements will be completed in time for the 2008 season.

2. TEA21 Phase I

The project on Main Street began demolition of serpentine in October 2006 and was completed May 2007. Phase I will encompass Main Street from Steve Owens Boulevard to just north of Central. The project's entire demolitions were completed (phases 1-3) during the first phase.

Phase I will increase the number of parking spaces on Main Street from 51 to approximately 105-120. In addition, new sidewalks and curbing will be installed.

Plans have been submitted to the State for final approval. Work will start in spring 2008.

3. Design Assistance Grants Available

The City has received $25,000 for its Downtown Building Rehabilitation Design Program. More information regarding the program may be obtained by contacting the city's Community Development/Grant Coordinator Larry Eller at 541-2236.

4. Steve Owens Boulevard/Truck Route Intersection Project

Phase I of the project has been completed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF), which includes the purchase of easements. Phase II, which consists of road widening and a new traffic signal at the intersection of Steve Owens Blvd and the Truck Route, phase II will start in early spring 2008. This $800,000 project is being paid for with federal, state, City of Miami, and BNSF funds. 5. City Wins Grant For Coleman Theatre Complex And Downtown Miami

The City of Miami's application to the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to complete the upstairs ballroom and make road improvements (road, sidewalk, curb, and decorative lighting) at the intersection of the theatre complex has been approved. The total cost of the project is approximately $1.1 million and will fund complete renovation of the upstairs to create a convention and community room, and improve the intersection at first and North Main Street. The amount of the grant is $500,000 and is a re-appropriation approved by Senator James Inhofe. The architectural firm of Sparks and Associates has been awarded a contract for preparation of plans and specifications for the project. Construction should start in the spring of 2007. 6. City Implements New Stormwater Management Program

The City of Miami Council recently approved an ordinance in September 2005 creating a new stormwater management utility. This action was taken in order for the City to comply with the federal mandate that all communities above 10,000 develop and implement a stormwater management plan. More information on the new utility can be obtained by contacting the City Engineer Jerry Ruse at 541-2329.
